Weekend Craft Soiree {38}

Happy Saturday, Lovelies! I hope you have lots of fun plans for this beautiful weekend! :) First off, I have a little announcement. You may have already heard, but I just wanted to take a moment and fill you in just in case you haven't. :) Did you hear that Google Friend Connect is going away soon?! It will end this month for non-Blogger blogs, and will eventually be gone altogether! If you look over on the right side you will now see the option of following with Linky Followers! I actually think it is going to be so much better than GFC! There are so many more options to sort out the blogs you follow into categories, etc! Y'all have been SO amazing lately! Well, you are already amazing, but all of these projects lately have just been EXTRAordinary! Here are a few highlights from last weekend! 

Katie at Creatively Living has done a spectacular job on her Reading Nook Project! You won't believe how this space looked a few short weeks ago! Here she shares her Reading Nook Curtain Tutorial. I don't know about you, but this makes me really, really want to create a reading nook of my own! 

And look what a fantastic job Kelley at Miss Information did creating this Shipping Pallet Towel Rack for her boys' bathroom! I just love it! 

Cassity at Remodelaholic used a pallet to Frame in A Wall Mount Television!!! This is absolutely brilliant! I love the contrasted look of the old pallet with the new "high tech" tv! She shares a great, easy to follow tutorial, too! 

Here is another fabulous pallet project! Kristi at I Should Be Mopping the Floor used a pallet to create this beautiful Pallet HeART!!! 

Melissa at Shabby Love did a wonderful job on this pretty Rustic Heart Wreath! Is this adorable or what?! 

Look how ADORABLE these Baby Boots are!!! Rose at A Rosie Sweet Home shared a fabulous So Stinkin' Cute Baby Boots tutorial!

Sequined Rose Scarf {Child/Adult} Tutorial

  I have seen a few rose scarves floating around the web lately, so a few weeks ago, I decided to give my own version of this adorable scarf a try. I made a red one and made another for my 9 year old niece. :) Since she is all about fashion and accessorizing, I wanted to make her scarf really fun! I made it multicolored {I used fuschia, peacock blue, glitter purple, glitter white, and bright lime green} and then added a few matching sequins to each rose. 


Materials needed:
Felt 
needle
matching thread
scissors
**Optional: sequins, clear thread


  First, make your Felt Roses. You can see the tutorial that I just recently posted for the roses here. When I made the red scarf, I made 13 flowers. I made 12 roses, just slightly smaller, for this scarf I made for Anna Grace. It is all about the personal preference of how long you want your scarf to be. 

These are the roses from the tutorial, not this particular scarf. 

  
  After you finish making the roses, cut out a piece of matching felt or felted wool for the actual length of the scarf. For the adult scarf I used a 45 by 4 inch piece, for the child scarf, I cut my piece of felt to 36 by 3 inches. 

**I actually tried using some fleece when I made the red scarf and failed miserably. After sewing the roses to the fleece, it was entirely too stretchy for his scarf and just didn't look very pretty. Fleece would probably work okay if you doubled it and used fusible interfacing to prevent it from being so stretchy. 

Cut scallops out on each side, the entire length of the scarf. 

This photo was taken after the scarf was completed, I just want you to see the scallops that have been cut out of the main piece. 

  Then place your roses where you would like them positioned on the scarf. You can go ahead and pen them for the entire length or just position and sew one at a time like I did. 


Sew a circle around through beginning from back to front. Only sew through the bottom layer of the scarf. 

                  Be sure to tie off each circle at the end to secure it. 

This is what mine looked like after I finished attaching all of the roses. I just love it here, but decided to add a little extra flare by adding a few matching sequins! :)

I simply attached the sequins using a needle and clear thread. I will share a more detailed tutorial for attaching sequins next week, so be sure to stop back by! If you decide to make one of these adorable scarves, please let me know! I would love to see pics! :)

My First Ever Ruffled Pillow!

   Hey y'all! I was looking thru some pics on my phone today and realized that I never shared this little ruffled pillow with you all! I actually made it a few months ago!
  I used some leftover dropcloth material and scrap fabric. It was my first try a sewing ruffles, so I thought it turned out pretty cute. I can see all of its flaws, but of course, I have to remind myself, it was my first ever try at ruffles and they were actually very easy! I will try to post a tutorial this week! :)

Today I would like to share a SUPER EASY fleece blanket tutorial with you!!

The materials needed are:

2 yards of fleece fabric

1 package of coordinating satin blanket binding

Coordinating yarn

Coordinating sewing thread

Pins

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Sewing Machine

In this case I went with zebra fabric and all red coordinating materials.

First trim your fleece fabric of any uneven edges or those funky white labeled edges... You know what I'm talking about... :)

Then, using the Yarn Needle, stitch your thread down the two length sides of your fabric like so... I spaced each stitch about a half an inch apart...











Next you'll pin and trim your satin binding to the two width sides (the two shorter sides)... The binding will have a fold down the middle, simply line that fold up with the edge of your fabric, making sure it's centered so there's an even amount of binding on both sides...











Fold over the edges of the binding to make your four corners and pin those as well. You can either trim or fold the extra binding inside to make your corner.















Once you have the binding pinned onto both sides, get out the sewing machine. I used red thread to match the binding...





If you sew really well, you can use a varying color of thread for added pop!!! I don't so much... SO matching thread hides my inexperienced sewing skills. :)

(I'm a little addicted to zebra print... can you tell?!?)

Simply sew the binding to the fleece pulling pins as you go.





And TaDA!!!! A SUPER EASY fleece blanket made by you!

They make great baby gifts, or gifts for friends or family!! :)

Protect Baby Knees With Crawling Knee Pads!

   I have lots of baby showers coming up, and a will definitely be making a few of these precious sets of crawling knee pads!   I will definitely be making one of these cute headbands! Especially since I hope to start running again soon! It would be perfect to wear working out! It would also be great to wear to keep your hair out of your face when cleaning, crafting, and, pretty soon, gardening! I'm so glad I found this cute little creation over at Craft Snob!

Homemade Dog Bed from an Old Sweater and Scarf!

 I just wanted to share this little project that I created for my little Miniature Schnauzers a few weeks ago! I wish I had taken pictures as I did it, so I could post a tutorial! It was SO easy to make! The middle part is from an old sweater that was hanging in my closet, and the outside part was from an old scarf, the "tube" kind that I just stuffed.Basically I cut the circle out of the from and back of the sweater, sewed around and stuffed it. Then I sewed the scarf around this and stuffed it right before I sewed it up. It took maybe 30 minutes, which is really good for me, haha!
   I must say, my little Schnauzers LOVE this bed! Most beds I have purchased for them in the past do not have a lot of stuffing in the middle, only around the sides, so they LOVE how soft this one is! Plus this one  has my scent, so the feel the same way they do when they are laying on one of my shirts! I am sure I will be making many more, so next time I do, I will be sure to take pictures as I go! :) Sorry for the poor picture quality! I used my cell phone for this one!
