Here is a little bit about me -- my name is Reannah and I blog over at Shaped by Grace. I write about DIY projects, crafts, and life as a single mama.



Today I wanted to share with you a little project I came up with! It’s called a Tooth Fairy Passport!



What is a Tooth Fairy Passport you ask? Well, let me explain! Recently my little man lost a tooth. It just so happened it fell out on a day that he was going over to see his dad and he wanted to take his tooth. I thought, how cool would it be if he had a passport to take his tooth with him – something OFFICIAL that can travel with him wherever he went? {Even if you’re kids don’t share time between two homes, how cool would this passport be to have at home and take on vacation!} :)
So here is how I made this Tooth Passport:


First you will need:

• an old passport holder or wallet. {You could also cover two pieces of cardboard and make your own pockets.} I used an old passport holder I had.
• 2 Fabrics of your choice {I used burlap for the cover and the blue fabric for the tooth} :)
• Scissors
• Fabric Glue {Or a sewing machine if you’re handy like that!}
• OPTIONAL: Clear nail polish or hot glue to keep your fabric from fraying, if needed; Ribbon, any embellishments of your choice, and a glue gun to glue them on!

{STEPS}

1. Cut your fabric to fit your passport cover or wallet. Leave just enough around the edges (approx. 1/3-1/2” depending on your fabric) to fold over like a book cover:



2. I then CUT the corners off to make the folds neater:





3. GLUE on your fabric for your cover. (Remember – DO NOT glue on the binding/fold part of your passport holder or wallet. The fabric needs some give so it will be able to open and close.) After gluing the fabric onto the outside of the cover, carefully GLUE down the inside edges and corners. You can use either fabric glue or hot glue. I used hot glue since my passport holder was plastic on the inside.



4. Add any ribbons or borders to the inside of your passport. This is optional, but it does give the project a more finished touch. I used a piece of glittery yellow ribbon and layered a piece of blue twine on top with hot glue:

{I kept my passport pretty simple because my boys are older, but I bet you could go to town on patterns and ribbon and all sorts of embellishments!!}

5. Use the clear nail polish or hot glue to seal the edges of your fabric and ribbon so they don’t fray.



You are now done with the inside of the passport!! {Give yourself a little pat on the back!}

{I left the burlap a little frayed because I wanted this passport to look a little rugged and almost safari-like for my boys.}

And while the inside is drying, you can now make your tooth pocket for the front cover!

6. Cut out the shape of a tooth in the fabric of your choice. {Or you can let a stencil or your silhouette do it for you!} Until I am lucky enough to have a silhouette, I am a free hand-it sort of girl:



7. Using fabric glue, glue the back of your tooth on the BOTTOM and SIDES only so you create a little pocket! Then glue your fabric tooth to the cover of your passport:



{This little pocket is where the tooth will go!}



And you’re done!!! {That’s another pat on the back!} Woot woot!





BUT WAIT! There’s more…

What goes on the INSIDE?? Well, you can’t have a traveling tooth without some proof of the travels! Sooo, I created a printable "Tooth Travels" punch card! How fun to punch a hole or stamp the card each time your kiddo loses a tooth!



There is also a Tooth Fairy letter format AND a tooth journal included so your child can write how they lost their tooth and keep it in their passport.



OH – and of course, there’s a spot for the money!!



And just for you, because your friends of Crystal’s and Homemaker in Heels, I included the printables here for you for FREE! These can be used even without the passport! I hope you enjoy them!!

And he has another tooth loose already! I better go and catch up on punching holes on his passport card!!

Guest Post: Candy Bucket Cutie from Christy at Christy's Cuties!

   Happy Friday, my friends! I am excited to say that we have another fabulous Halloween guest post today! Please help me welcome sweet Christy from Christy's Cuties! Here's Christy...


Good morning Homemaker In Heels readers.  I am so excited to be here today!  Isn't Crystal and her blog the best?  I love everything about her cute blog!  I am Christy and I blog over at Christy's Cuties.



I like to blog about sewing, crafts, saving money, and even some fun family things in between.  Today I am going to show you what I would deem a "cutie" candy bucket for Halloween.  Are you ready?  Lets go!
I like to do projects with things I already have, or by re-purposing things.  For this I decided to re-use one of the many ice cream buckets that I have been saving.

I started by spray painting the bucket.  I used a flat black Krylon.

Here is the new beginning.  I did not spray the handle, I just took it off.

I started by dressing up the black with a bright orange pumpkin.  I just free handed the pumpkin and then continued adding layers of paint.

I decided that this would be used for my daughter, so every girl needs a little "bling" right?  I mean, candy AND bling?? Yes, please!  So I decided to use glitter and I made some bling circles all over. 

After the bucket, paint, and glitter had dried I added the handle, and tied some ribbon on either side.  Here is the final outcome.

I love the "bling" and the ribbons on either side!  It's much more fun than the normal plastic pumpkin bucket.  Don't ya think?

The last picture!  I can't wait to see how many times we will get to fill it up this year.  :)

Guest Post: Pumpkin Votive Luminaries from Kim at Maiden D'Shade

Hello everyone! I'm Kim from Maiden D'Shade and I am so happy to be here today on Homemaker in Heels!

Crystal was the first blogger to feature one of my posts and I'm so honored to be her guest today.

What I'm going to share with you today is a project that I wanted to do last year but didn't get to (because I couldn't find orange tissue paper until after Halloween). Pumpkin Votive Luminaries. I saw it in a magazine last year (maybe Taste of Home?) using jars. But I thought these glass votive holders (from Dollar Tree, thrift stores, your basement, etc.) would make fabulous pumpkin luminaries!

So, I cut strips of orange tissue paper an inch or two wide and longer than the height of each glass.

Then I decoupaged each strip on the glass. (I used watered down Mod Podge like I did here.)

I cut the bottom ends of the strips so that when I decoupaged them they would lay as flat as possible.

Then I let it dry.

Then using an X-Acto knife I carefully trimmed the excess tissue paper from the top and added more decoupage medium along the rim. While that was drying, I printed out shapes on the computer.

Then I cut them out and decoupaged them onto the votives. (Be careful, the color may run depending on your printer/ink.) You could also cut shapes out of construction paper or scrapbook paper.



I put battery operated tea lights in them and they're done!

Love them!! Total cost $8 (glass, lights, tissue)!

Guest Post: Halloween Yarn Wreath from Andrea at Keepin it Thrifty

Hey everyone! Today we have the super-sweet Andrea from Keepin it Thrifty sharing the tutorial for her adorable Halloween yarn wreath! Here's Andrea...

Here is my first yarn wreath I ever made, I tried it a few months ago before I started my blog and figured now is the time to post it!  Yarn wreaths are sooo easy, cheap,and so much FUN!  I'm obsessed with making wreaths, their so simple to make!  Here's how I made mine!

Supplies:

{wreath}

{yarn}

Step.{1}  Take your wreath and tie a knot {to secure your first wrap}

{should look like this}

   Step.{2}  Start wrapping around, around, & around!!

                                   {repeat this process until you have covered the entire wreath}

Step.{3} After I had wrapped the entire wreath with yarn I started customizing it.

YES, every wreath needs a little customizing.

     I added glittery foam letters, a felt spider, and a cute little witch hat. I purchased all these from 

      Hobby Lobby for just $1.50!! 

                                  

Step.{4}  Hang your new yarn wreath and enjoy!

   Hello Homemaker in Heels readers! I am so excited to be here with you all today! I just LOVE Crystal's blog! Every time I stop in for a visit I feel so happy! She and her blog just exude happy bubbly wonderfulness~ Don't you think?
   Anywhoooooo, I live with my husband and our 4 wonderful children in Kansas City. I blog about all sorts of things but I am really just getting started and trying to find my niche.  You can find information about us renovating our house and making it a home, kids crafts, educational ideas, gift ideas, and whatever else seems to tickle my fancy that day. I started blogging in June as a way to journal, as I try to start my own business and keep my house running. So far, so good. Once a week I feature my favorite blogging buddy.    I LOVE craft projects that are easy enough to finish while watching How to Train Your Dragon (which I watch daily btw) and that I can have my kids be involved. I had planned a really cool tutorial for you all but it was a total craft FAIL in my book so I must try it again and see what went wrong. So, I decided to show you all a SUPER EASY, super CUTE craft that you can make in literally a minute.

ENVELOPE BOOKMARKS

Supplies needed:
Square Envelopes (mine are 4 ¾ x 4 ¾ )
Stickers or Embellishments of your choice
A paper cutter or scissors
A Pencil
Seriously that is all you need!

Here are your supplies

Measure, using your book of choice, 

where you would like your book mark to fit 

over the corner of your page.   

See my mark on the right.

Line up your mark with your paper cutter or scissors

and CUT. 

If you would like a more precise corner measure

both side equally, I measured 10" on one side and ten

on the other.

Line up both marks and CUT. 

OR if you cannot find a pencil or pen or you

just don't want to, line up the envelope like a diamond

and cut from one corner to the other.

See how easy that is!!! And think about how you

can recycle or up-cycle all that junk mail you get!!

Okay, now here come the hard part!

Add your sticker and embellishment where you would

like and voila...

ALL DONE!

Fits just right! Now how stinking easy was that??
